4 Tips for Anxiety-Free Random Calling

1. Provide "Think Time" Before Spinning

Announce the question or prompt first and give students 30–60 seconds of silent thinking or peer discussion before spinning the wheel. This ensures every student prepares an answer, rather than tuning out once their name isn't called.

2. Use the "Pass or Phone-a-Friend" Rule

Give students agency. Allow anyone whose name is drawn to ask a peer for help or say "pass for now, check back with me in a minute." This maintains a supportive, psychological safety net.

3. Manage Multiple Periods with "Save / load lists"

Use DrawLuma’s browser storage to save distinct rosters like "Period 1 Math" and "Period 3 Algebra". Lists stay securely on that computer without needing logins or subscriptions.

4. Toggle Winner Removal

Enable "Remove winners after full draw" if you want each student to speak once during a session. Disable it when you want every student on their toes for every question.

100% Student Data Privacy (FERPA Compliant)

DrawLuma runs entirely inside your web browser. Student names and class rosters are never transmitted, stored in external databases, or shared with third parties.
